Tobacco-Free Schools Initiative

Creating a Healthier Future for Children

Madan Bahuudheshiya Sevabhavi Sanstha (MBSS), in collaboration with the Salaam Mumbai Foundation, successfully implemented the “Tobacco-Free Schools” and “Tobacco-Free School Premises” initiatives across 100 villages in Jalna District, Maharashtra.

The project aimed to create awareness among students, teachers, parents, and community members about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption and the importance of maintaining a tobacco-free educational environment.

Project Objectives

  • Promote tobacco-free schools and surrounding areas.
  • Educate students about the health risks associated with tobacco use.
  • Prevent tobacco addiction among children and adolescents.
  • Encourage community participation in creating tobacco-free environments.
  • Support government efforts towards public health and tobacco control.

Key Activities Conducted

School Awareness Programs

Awareness sessions were organized in schools to educate students about:

  • Harmful effects of tobacco products
  • Health risks of smoking and chewing tobacco
  • Importance of healthy lifestyle choices
  • Prevention of addiction among youth

Community Awareness Campaigns

Awareness activities were conducted for:

  • Parents
  • Teachers
  • School Management Committees
  • Village Leaders
  • Community Members

Tobacco-Free School Premises Campaign

Special efforts were made to ensure that:

  • School premises remained tobacco-free
  • Tobacco sales near schools were discouraged
  • Educational posters and awareness materials were displayed
  • Students became ambassadors for tobacco-free communities

Educational Materials & Counseling

Information materials, awareness posters, counseling sessions, and interactive discussions were conducted to strengthen the impact of the campaign.

Impact of the Initiative

The campaign successfully reached thousands of students and community members across 100 villages, creating widespread awareness about the dangers of tobacco use and promoting healthier lifestyles among young people.

The initiative contributed significantly to strengthening tobacco control awareness and creating safer, healthier educational environments for children.
